Whistleblowers (also called whistleblowers) have in the past risked hostility, legal proceedings that threatened their existence, and reprisals due to an environment that was not specifically regulated and in the absence of appropriate protective mechanisms Workplace (such as transfers, poorer opportunities for advancement and even dismissals), but also bullying and, in extreme cases, even physical threats. With the EU Whistleblower Directive (Directive (EU) 2019\/), which came into force in December 2019 1937 of October 23, 2019 to protect people who report violations of Union law; also: Whistleblower Directive) the legal protection of whistleblowers should be increased and uniform and cross-industry minimum standards should be established be created. The deadline for national implementation ended in December 2021. Due to a lack of implementation, infringement proceedings were initiated against Austria in the spring. There is now a draft for a national implementation law, the Whistleblower Protection Act (short “HSchG”), which has already gone through the review process; The law is expected to come into force in spring 2023.<\/section>\n
